An Eddie Jones penalty sees FC Halifax Town’s defence of the Isuzu FA Trophy come to an end.

Both teams were expecting to play the fixture last Saturday, but the weather conditions meant the pitch was unfit causing the fixture to be rearranged.

In the 24th minute, Altrincham F.C went down to 10 men after a late challenge by defender Sam Roscoe. The tackle was too high for the centre-back to stay on the pitch and The Robins reacted by bringing Lewis Baines on for ex-Halifax man Matthew Kosylo.

A clipped ball over the top into Chris Conn-Clarke in the 33rd minute allowed him to isolate Jamie Stott and get a shot off at Johnson who made a smart stop at his near post.

The first half ended 0-0 with the talking points of the first half being the Roscoe red card along with Kosylo’s choice gestures to the home fans when he was sacrificed for Altrincham.

Town made two changes going into the second half, Rob Harker and Kane Thompson-Sommers came on for Aaron Cosgrave and Luke Summerfield.

The first big chance of the second half came when in the 59th minute Max Wright was dragged down by Altrincham’s captain Isaac Marriott. Adam Senior struck the free-kick powerfully, Ethan Ross tipping it over the bar for a corner.

Ross made a great save to keep the game level in the 81st minute, Jamie Stott slid the ball into Harker who took it on the back foot and hit it low to the keeper’s right.

The last chance before full-time fell to Stott, in added time Golden whipped a ball into the box from a corner which the centre-back met and headed into the Altrincham keeper’s arms.

This meant penalties, Harker stepped up first for the Shayman and calmly slotted his penalty away in the bottom left. Elliot Osborne followed this up by missing his pen, a great save by Johnson to his left.

Senior had his pen saved by Ross and Lewis Banks levelled it for 1-1 by lacing his pen down the middle.

Golden put Town back ahead by striking the ball into the top corner meaning Amaluzor had to score to take it to sudden death, which he did.

Keane took the first pen in sudden death and made it 5-4. Angus kept his team in the game by chipping it in for 5-5.

Thompson-Sommers then stepped up and hit the bar, and Jones followed up and scored, winning the game for the away side.

Town have a chance to bounce back from tonight’s game on Saturday as they face Gateshead away from home at 12:30 pm. in front of the TNT Sports cameras.
