FC Halifax Town suffered defeat on the road losing against Aldershot Town.

Town were looking to make it two wins on the bounce after a 2-0 win over Gateshead on Tuesday.

Mani Dieseruvwe’s third goal in 7 days wasn’t enough to stop Aldershot taking all three points in a 5-1 defeat.

Chris Millington made one change to his starting line-up as Kian Spence came in for Harvey Gilmour. Latest recruit Osayamen Osawe also returned to the squad as he took a place on the bench.

Town were quick to test the defence of Aldershot. In the third minute, Dieseruvwe danced his way into the box and tried his luck. Lucas Ashby-Hammond was able to catch the ball comfortably for the hosts.

Aldershot started to find their feet in the game after 10 minutes. Inih Effiong thought he was through on goal with his effort, but the linesman had his flag up. Sam Johnson was also there to make the save for good measure.

Just before the twenty-minute mark, some clever play from Angelo Cappello created a chance for Town. He made a run down the left wing and crossed the ball into the box. Sam Minihan connected with the ball, but it took a deflection and went out for a corner. The subsequent corner provided Town with another chance, Dieseruvwe’s header glanced just wide.

Against the run of play, the visitors took the lead through Tyler Cordner in the 26th minute. A corner came into the box and Cordner rose highest to put the hosts ahead.

The Shaymen were quick to bounce back just 10 minutes later. Minihan collected the ball before laying it off to Kian Spence. His cross was played in and Dieseruvwe headed home.

The hosts instantly regained their lead. Ollie Harfield headed the ball into the box and Cordner was there to head in his second of the game.

Town went into the break trailing but instantly responded positively in the second half. Dieseruvwe jumped the highest to connect with the ball. His header was heading for the bottom corner, but Ashby-Hammond did well to get down to palm the ball away.

As a stark contrast, Ryan Glover was played in by his teammate and he was able to find the back of the net to increase the lead for the hosts in the 50th minute.

Before the restart, the hosts made their first change as Giles Philips made way for Corey Jordan.

Aldershot almost had another goal when a cross into the box met Effiong at the back post. His header went just wide of the goal.

In the 57th minute, Chris Millington adopted a change of tactic as he made his first change. Osawe came on to replace Jamie Stott.

Just a minute later, Jack Hunter went into the book. Town continued to press the hosts to try and get something from the game. Dieseruvwe played the ball to Cappello across the left of the box. He tried to get the shot away, but the Aldershot defence was able to get there first to clear the ball away.

In the 65th minute, Harry Panayiotou came on for Tommy Willard for the hosts. Rob Harker also came on for Cappello for Town.

Justin Amaluzor got a fourth for the hosts when his strike from outside the box beat Johnson to find the back of the net.

The Shaymen didn’t let their heads drop as they continued to push for a goal to keep the match alive. Matt Warburton made a bursting run down the pitch; he then fired a shot from the edge of the box, but it was cleared away.

Kian Spence tried his luck on the half-volley after Dieseruvwe headed the ball back across the face of goal from the back post. The Aldershot keeper was able to make the save, however. That turned out to be Spence’s last action of the game as he was replaced by Harvey Gilmour in the 81st minute.

In the 86th minute, Aldershot made it 5 as Effiong converted from the spot after Jesse Debrah brought down Archie Davies in the box. Debrah found himself on the receiving end of a yellow card for the challenge.

In the final minute of added time, Hunter glanced a header across goal, but it went wide of the target.

Next up for The Shaymen is a trip to Eastleigh next weekend at 3pm, as Town will look to get back to winning ways.
