FC Halifax Town were defeated 1-0 by Aldershot Town in the Vanarama National League in a game of few chances.
The visitors scored the only goal of the game within the first three minutes of the game. Theo Widdrington’s flick into Josh Barrett and he curled an effort past Sam Johnson nearly into the bottom right corner to stun the Shaymen early on.
First corner of the game came to the Shaymen in the 9th minute, it was headed away at the near post. The ball was played back to Cappello on the right-hand side, his cross was flicked on into the path of Will Smith but his effort was just wide of the target.
The visitors forced their first corner in the 16th minute due to Good clearance from Tom Pugh. The ball back in needed excellent defending from Will Smith
Theo Widdrington effort from 30 yards out, Johnson looked worried, but it was just wide of the target.
Foul by Jenkins on the left-hand side, freekick to the visitors. Ryan Jones into the box well cleared at the near post. Aldershot worked the ball to Cameron Hargreaves, but his effort was never troubling Johnson and into the south stand.
Andrew Oluwabori into the path of Jack Jenkins and he fired a shot which was well watched by Marcus Dewhurst for Town’s first shot on target
Just over 5 minutes to the break, Angelo Cappello capitalised on a loose ball and fired a shot over the bar.
Cross into the box from Tom Pugh met by the head of Andrew Oluwabori and headed wide of the target when the goal was begging to be hit
Town won the ball in the 55th minute and worked it to Jamie Cooke in the right-hand channel, his shot was narrowly wide of the target, he appealed for a corner but nothing given by referee Garreth Rhodes.
Both sides made substitutions with Florent Hoti and Owen Bray on for Jack Jenkins and Tom Pugh whilst the visitors had James Henry and Jack Barham on for Kai Corbett and Josh Barrett.
Town boss made his two final changes with Zak Emmerson and Aaron Cosgrave on for Angelo Cappello and Adan George
Cosgrave won a corner on the far post, the ball into the box looked for Will Smith but he couldn’t connect and out for a goal kick.
A couple of late Aldershot corners were dealt with by the Town defence, the latter one saw a header by James Henry straight at Johnson
Aldershot made their final change in injury time with Maxwell Mullins on for Ghandour.
A late corner to Town saw Johnson come up from the back, Henry brought him down in the box. No penalty was given. Aldershot looked to score from their own half, but Henry’s effort was nowhere near the target.
Town will be back in action on Tuesday night with the visit of Gateshead, 7.45pm kick-off.
