The Shaymen took on 7th place Aldershot Town today at the Shay Stadium in the National League in front of 1928 fans.
Adan George made his home debut, whilst new signing Jack Jenkins started on the bench, having signed from Leeds on Wednesday.
Town were coming in off the back of an away defeat to Wealdstone, whilst Aldershot were coming in off the back of a draw to Wealdstone.
It was an entertaining first half with Town starting strongly; The first chance of the game coming from Adan George, who’s shot narrowly went past the post.
Aldershot top scorer Tolaj also nearly found a first goal for the visitors 8 minutes in, his header just over the goal.
Jamie Cooke had a decent chance for Town in the 19th minute on the edge of the six yard box. Tolaj also narrowly missed for the Shots a few moments later after a Tolaj shot put wide in the box.
Max Wright broke the deadlock for Town in the 26th minute with a great right footed strike on the edge of the box for his second of the season. Some great build up play from Capello, Summerfield, and Cooke opened up the Town defence allowing Wright an open right footed shot for the Shaymen.
Adan George nearly found Town’s second goal and his first of the season; Some good play from Summerfield found him open in the box, but his shot went just over the bar.
After 2 minutes of additional time, the referee blew his whistle, Town going into half time 1-0 up.
Just after the start of the second half, Aldershot scored an equaliser, their top scorer Lorent Tolaj finding the net with a right footed tap in in the box for his 14th of the season, making the score 1-1.
Aldershot were pushing forwards more this half, creating a few good opportunities. Jack Barham had an effort in the 63rd minute, his left footed shot just past the post.
O’Keefe received the first yellow card of the game for Aldershot in the 67th minute, and a minute later, Aldershot brought off Stuart O’Keefe for Kwame Thomas, who made an instant impact: Stokes finding him in the 69th minute with a cross from the edge of the box for a simple tap in in the 6 yard box, making the score 2-1 for Aldershot.
Town made their first sub in the 75th minute, replacing Max Wright with Andrew Oluwabori. Aldershot also made a sub, bringing on James Daly for Jack Barham.
New signing Jack Jenkins was brought on to replace Angelo Capello, making his debut for Town. He had a good solo effort in the 85th, skillfully getting past the Aldershot defence for a good shot saved by the Aldershot keeper. Down at the other end Town had a scare, with Johnson nearly getting caught out of position, but managing to get back in time to make a good save.
In the 88th, Widdrington was brought on to replace Stokes for Aldershot.
After it was announced that there would be 5 minutes of added time, Jack Hunter replaced Aaron Cosgrave.
In the 94th minute, Luke Summerfield had a decent free kick attempt from just outside the box, the ball was just over however in what was the last attack of the game for Town, the game ending 2-1 to Aldershot.
Town take on Solihull Moors at home this Tuesday at 7:45.
