After FC Halifax Town’s 1-0 win over Aldershot Town, defender Neill Byrne spoke to Shaymen TV to give his thoughts on the game.

“It was another hard fort victory,” Byrne said. “It was a great three points once again. I think we dug deep against Solihull and there was more of the same tonight. They’re on a run a bit like us, they are up there in the form table. We knew it was going to be a difficult game and we knew what their threats and weaknesses were. I think we performed our game plan well and we were solid. We waited for our strikers to nick us a goal, and Jamie Allen has done it again.”

Town opened the scoring thanks to Allen slotting past goalkeeper Ryan Hall in the 83rd minute. Just moments earlier, the visitors thought they had gone 1-0 up but the linesman’s flag denied them.

“Niall said they were a mile offside,” Byrne told Shaymen TV. “It was one of those things that you expect the linesman and ref to get right, which they did. Then we go down the other end and we score. That is a testament to our character, that belief that we can come from behind and not drop our heads. To have that goal removed, gave us that little extra 10 percent to keep going.”

For the first time this season, the Shaymen have earned back-to-back clean sheets. Something Byrne and the rest of the defence is very proud of.

“As a team, we’ve spoken about wanting more clean sheets,” Byrne said. “We’re not going to be able to score two, three, or four goals every game. But we know that when we keep a clean sheet, we can win 1-0. The last two games have shown this. At Notts County we did well, except for their goal, but we need to start keeping clean sheets more often.”

Town travel to Eastleigh this Saturday with Halifax hoping to make it seven unbeaten.

“When Eastleigh came here, they played really well,” Byrne told Shaymen TV. “They are up there in the league and form wise. There are a good few teams that are up there and want to be in and around the mix. So, we have to go down there and prepare right. We will approach like any other game; we want to win and get all three points.”
