This Saturday FC Halifax Town welcome League One side AFC Wimbledon to the MBi Shay stadium. Town beat Morecambe 1-0 in a first-round replay and the Dons beat Haringey Borough 1-0 in the dying minutes of the game. Here we’ll look at the key players for AFC Wimbledon.

Simon Bassey will have a few experienced football league players at his disposal. One of which is top scorer Joe Piggot.
Piggot has got six goals to his name this season making him the Dons top scorer by quite a margin. Joining Wimbledon in January 2018 it didn’t take him long for the fans to fall in love with him. He scored four minutes into his debut coming off the bench. He also scored 77 seconds into an EFL cup game against West Ham.

Piggot started his career with London Charlton Athletic in the Championship. But lack of appearances and not finding the net at all meant he had to move onto Maidstone United in the National League.
During his time at Charlton he had many loan spells with League One and Two clubs. Before impressing with Maidstone and they made the deal permanent in the summer of 2017. Impressing in the National League now got his call back to the football league with AFC Wimbledon where he is now.

Bassey has also has the experience of former Bradford City target man James Hanson. Hanson was part of the Bradford City side that made it to Wembley in the EFL Cup to play Swansea. In that run Hanson was a key figure in wins over then Championship side Watford and three Premier League teams, Wigan in the fourth round won it on penalties, then on penalties again in the quarter finals against Arsenal and finally the semi-final victory over Aston Villa over two legs.  Unfortunately, Hanson and Bradford couldn’t provide the cup shock of beating the Swans in the final Bradford lost 5-0 in the final.
Hanson spent most of his career at Bradford making just shy of 300 appearances for the club. Beforehand he had a spell at another West Yorkshire side Guiseley. After Bradford he had a short stay at Sheffield United but that didn’t work out before he moved to London to play for AFC Wimbledon where he has been since the beginning of this season.

The game kicks off at 12:30pm this Saturday lunchtime we hope to see as many down at the games as possible. If you are unable to make it, you can listen to live commentary from the ground on Shaymen audio from 12:15pm.
