FC Halifax Town U19s came out 2-0 victors away at AFC Fylde this week

Town looked to start off on the front foot, as they were eager to right the wrongs of last week’s result. And they did just that, as in the opening half an hour the young Shaymen had an abundance of chances, and in the 25th minute Lewis Barlow would break the deadlock and put Halifax one goal to the good. This would be the score going into the break despite coach Jack Garside who said, “We should have had three or four in the first half.”

In the second half the leaders were focused on preserving their lead, and they would be successful as they kept Fylde to very few shots on target in the second half. This defensive security along with a second goal in the 55th minute courtesy of Tinos Ashagre would double Town’s lead and help the side break their losing streak in the league, as the match finished FC Halifax Town 2 AFC Fylde 0.

Meanwhile, FC Halifax Town U19s defeated Buxton 5-3 at home.

Halifax, hoping to extend their six-game winning streak, were right at it from the off. Barney Wiggin would open the scoring in the 14th minute and give Halifax the lead early on, however the first half wasn’t smooth sailing for the home side as they would go down to ten men. Callum Nicholson would harshly be given his marching orders in the 35th minute, and this would be the last moment of note before the break.

The second half would match the first half’s hectic tempo as Buxton would not only equalise but go ahead in the 46th and 50th minutes, however the ten men Shaymen would not go down without a fight as Barney Wiggin would equalise in the 57th minute with his second of the game and made it clear that the home side were up for the challenge, but so were Buxton as they would once again take the lead in the 67th minute, making the score 3-2 to Buxton. Yet again Halifax would find themselves behind, but yet again they would find the resolve to equalise, this time in the 82nd minute through a Sam Finch penalty. Cleary frustrated with the Town’s resilience, Buxton would see two of their players be sent off in quick succession around the 85th minute. Halifax would capitalise on this as Barney Wiggin would score his 3rd and 4th goals of the game capping off a superb performance and grabbing the result for The Shaymen. This 5-3 win sees Halifax extend their impressive winning streak to 7 games.
