The centre-back began his career with Oldham Athletic, rising through the youth team before making four appearances in League One for the club. During his time with Oldham, the 24-year-old spent time on loan at Curzon Ashton in the National League North, AFC Fylde in the National League and Stockport before making the move permanent in July 2020.

Whilst on loan at Stockport, Stott played a key role in their National League North title campaign in 2019 and also picked up their young player of the year award. The left-sided centre back spent a season on loan Fylde helping the club to a 3^rd placed finish before losing to Boston United in the playoffs before joining the Shaymen last summer.
