Billy Waters
position :
forward
A familiar name to Town fans, the forward joins the Shaymen for his second spell. Waters began his career with Crewe Alexandra, signing a professional contract in 2013, but it was in 2015 and a move to Cheltenham which kick started his career. The forward netted 23 league goals in 83 games for Cheltenham, before he made the step up to League One with Northampton Town. Waters spent three years with the Cobblers, however he also spent time on loan with Cambridge United, Cheltenham Town, and Newport County during this time. In 2020, the forward was released by Northampton and he signed for Torquay United in the National League. After a successful season with the Gulls where they achieved a second-placed finish and only lost to Hartlepool United in the playoff final on penalties, Waters was released and made the move to the Shaymen.
A career best season followed for Waters at Town as he netted 20 in 52 games in all competitions and helped the Shaymen to a fourth placed finish in the National League. After just one season with the Shaymen, Waters followed manager Pete Wild to Barrow in League Two where he again would have a positive season, scoring nine in 32 league games. Before the end of the 2022/23 season, Waters made the move to Wrexham as they looked to get over the line and take the National League title. With Wrexham progressing rapidly up to League One, Waters was sent out loan to get game time last season to League Two side Doncaster Rovers as they recorded a playoff finish, however fell to Crewe Alexandra on penalties in the semi-final.
