FC Halifax Town had to settle for just a point against 10 man Wrexham in their second 0-0 away game of the season, which is only the third away clean sheet of the season.

The home side went down to 10 men just before the break with an off the ball incident involving Brett Ormerod kicking out at Simon Ainge, which was spotted by the assistant referee.

In a game with a number of chances for both sides, the first real effort for either side was for the hosts. Foul by Kevin Holsgrove on Rob Ogleby on the right hand side gave the Dragons a freekick. Johnny Huntโ€™s dangerous ball into the box on 10 minutes and it was headed onto the roof of the net.

Townโ€™s first effort on goal just a minute later as Adam Smith tested home goalkeeper Andy Coughlin from 30 yards who did well to hold onto the ball.

Brett Ormerod nutmegged Pearson on 13 minutes and his shot from the edge of the box deflected off Marc Roberts past the despairing hand off Glennon but inches wide of the post for a corner. However Glennon was able to claim the ball into the box.

A couple of minutes later, Town were awarded a corner after ball comes off a Wrexham man, Adam Smith found Simon Ainge with an acrobatic effort but well wide of the target

Town top scorer Lee Gregory had his first chance of the game on 18 minutes, a great Town move saw Scott McManus find Wilson, his cushioned header to Gregory but his shot from just outside the box was deflected and was easily for Coughlin to claim

Wrexham thought they had a good chance as Ogleby went clear of the Town defence but as he shot wide of Glennonโ€™s goal, a late flag went up for offside, which appeared to be the correct decision.

A long ball over the top saw Wrexham go clear of the Town defence but Marc Roberts pushes Ogleby wider than he would like, his effort tried to find the bottom left corner but Glennon was well positioned to save the effort

Kevin Holsgrove in his first start since the away game at Hereford United at the end of November had a shot from 35 yards, which was adjudged to have deflected over the bar

Smithโ€™s corner was met by the head of Roberts but saved by Coughlin

A good charging run down the left hand side by Matt Pearson, found McManus on the overlap and he got to the byline but his cross was unfortunately out of play.

McManus was again involved as Gregory looked to break the deadlock when his cross was headed by Gregory but up into the air and was easy for Coughlin to claim

The board went up for one minute of injury time but there was still time for more action. Ormerod felt Ainge elbowed him in an aerial challenge and as Wilsonโ€™s long ball looked for Holsgrove, the play was stopped with the assistant refereeโ€™s flag was up who had seen the Wrexham man kick out off the ball. The referee had no hesitation to pull the red card out much to the home fans and players frustration.

The first effort of the second half came from a

freekick into the box for Wrexham, Harris ball into the box which forced Glennon into the save, and he pushed the ball away, he slipped as he looked to pounce on the ball but the offside flag up against the Wrexham striker who was looking to first home from close range

Town thought they had gone ahead minutes later. A foul on Josh Wilson by Wrexham captain Joe Clarke. The freekick into the box, Marc Roberts heads home but the offside flag up against the Town defender.

Tempers were frayed again after another foul in midfield on a Town man. The referee Martin Coy spoke to both Clarke and David Artell with the latter shown a yellow card. Wilsonโ€™s ball into the box was cleared to touch.

Clarkeโ€™s freekick into the box, was headed away by the impressive Simon Ainge for a Wrexham corner. Andy Bishop, who had only been on the pitch for less than a minute, headed wide at the near post.

Another Freekick into the Town box led to good play by Ainge in the box, he laid the ball off for Smith and his cross was headed by Marc Roberts straight at the grateful Coughlin

Town were comfortable in possession during the second half as they looked for the goal which would break the deadlock at the Racecourse Ground.

The third Wrexham booking of the afternoon came after a Town corner. Josh Wilsonโ€™s shot was blocked and Wrexham tried to release substitute Theo Bailey-Jones, however debutant Jon Challinor got there first and cleared to touch but Bailey-Jones follow through saw him go into the refereeโ€™s notebook much to the home fans frustration.

Town tried to utilise the long throw of Marc Roberts, Ainge flick on but Gregory couldnโ€™t control and the ball went harmlessly out for a throw.

Lois Maynard back in his usual midfield position tried to test Coughlin from 25 yards but his shot lacked enough power and goalkeeper was able to make a comfortable save.

Reece Gray found his fellow substitute McReady at the edge of the box, however his shot was blocked as Town looked for that vital goal.

Town continued to pile forward and McManus cross was headed over the bar by Lois Maynard.

There was just three minutes of additional minutes to be played and Town continued to look for the winning goal. However couldnโ€™t find that final opportunity to make it a double over Wrexham this season following a 3-2 win at the Shay in August.

FC Halifax Town will return to home action on Saturday with the visit of high flying Cambridge United, 3pm kick-off
