1) An Old Club
Having been formed in 1864, they are the oldest club in Wales, and, even more impressively, are the third-oldest professional football club (still active) in the world. They were formed just two years after the oldest professional club, Notts County.
2) The Owners
Since August 2011, Wrexham have been a supporter-owned club, and this time last year, they were recorded as having 4,129 members/joint-owners.
3) League Level
The National League is the lowest division Wrexham have ever played at, and they have now spent a total of eight years at this level. They had been part of the Football League since 1921, until their relegation from League Two in the 2007/08 season.
4) FA Cup Upset
In 1992, Wrexham produced a remarkable upset over then-reigning English champions Arsenal when they faced them in the FA Cup. They came back from 1-0 down to score two goals in as many minutes in the last eight minutes of the game. It is widely regarded as one of the greatest FA Cup giant-killings ever.
5) European Cup Winners’ Cup
Wrexham were eligible for the European Cup Winners’ Cup through winning the Welsh Cup, and in 1984, they faced and beat European giants Porto 1-0.
6) Honours
Wrexham’s silverware cabinet includes the Third Division title in 1977/78, the Football League Trophy in 2005 and the FA Trophy in 2013. They are also record winners of the Welsh Cup (having won 23 times) and the FAW Premier Trophy (five time winners out of only 11 years).
7) Historic Ground
The Racecourse Ground, home to the Dragons, is actually the oldest international stadium in the world that still hosts international games. Its record attendance was a crowd of 36,445, who turned up to watch Wrexham host Manchester United in 1957.
8) Goals Galore
Wrexham’s demolition of Hartlepool United 10-1 in 1962 was the biggest win the club had ever seen. However, it was an historic game not just for that reason. It was also the first time three hat-tricks had been scored in a single game in the football league.
9) Heaviest Defeat
Having seen such a demolition the year before, it may have come as a surprise that Wrexham’s heaviest ever defeat came just a year later against Brentford, a 9-0 drubbing away from home.
10) Top Goalscorer
Tommy Bamford holds more than just one goalscoring record at Wrexham. In fact, he holds three, which is somewhat fitting as his records include most league goals in a season (44), most league goals at the club (174), and most hat tricks (16).
