FC Halifax Town make it three wins in a row as they beat Woking 2-1.

Goals from Florent Hoti and Luke Summerfield helped Town to win against The Cards despite a late scare from Dennon Lewis.

Aaron Cosgrave’s injury time heroics this Tuesday against Maidenhead United gave the Shayman their first home win at the sixth attempt. The 2-1 home victory meant Halifax moved to 9th, one point off play-off places.

This season, Woking haven’t been able to replicate the performances that saw them finish in 4th last campaign. They began the day in 19th place after drawing 1-1 to Hartlepool meaning they’d won one, drawn one and lost one of their last three games.

Four minutes into his return from injury, Florent Hoti came extremely close to putting Town a goal up. Andrew Oluwabori drove down the left flank, skipped past a few of Woking’s defenders and slid it in behind to Hoti whose shot went through the keepers legs but stopped just before the goal line.

Hoti had another chance 11 minutes into the game when Adan George beat his man on the right and pulled it back to the midfielder who dragged his shot wide.

Woking replied seven minutes later as Dennon Lewis took on Jordan Keane with a step-over and passed it into the six-yard box forcing Kane Thompson-Sommers into making a clearance upfield.

Luke Summerfield caught the Woking keeper off guard from a corner in the 26th minute, whipping the ball into the near-post and forcing Alexis Andre Jr to punch it into his own net for 1-0. This was the midfielder’s third goal of the season, the previous two coming from the penalty spot.

Hoti at his third attempt made it 2-0 to the Shayman after 34 minutes. Picking the ball up in midfield, he turned and curled a shot on goal that bounced just over Andre Jr’s outstretched hands.

Jack Evans ended the first-half by picking up a yellow card for pulling Jayden Luker’s shirt, a first-half that looked like Halifax Town’s most comfortable at the Shay this season. Adam Senior replaced Evans in the 59th minute which meant Tylor Golden switched sides to left-back.

Summerfield made a great sweeping pass out to Andrew Oluwabori on the left-wing, with acres of space in front of him Oluwabori shifted onto his right foot and curled an effort low into the keepers arms after 63 minutes.

Woking snatched one back in the 71th minute courtesy of Dennon Lewis. The winger received the ball out wide, isolated Jordan Keane with a touch inside and placed it into the far corner past Sam Johnson.

Millington made two substitutions in response to Woking making it 2-1, firstly Tuesday’s super-sub Cosgrave came on for Adan George. Then minutes later Jack Hunter replaced Max Wright.

Early into added time, the Cards’ captain Josh Casey had his cross deflected off the back of Senior which forced Johnson into making an important save, as he pushed the ball out of his box.

Scott Cuthbert had a golden opportunity in the 93rd minute when substitute Charley Kendall delivered a perfect cross into the box for Cuthburt. Cuthburt leant back and headed over the bar which proved to be the last touch of the game as the Shayman made it three wins in the space of a week.

Town’s chance to make it four in a row comes in the form of the Vanarama National League’s front runner Chesterfield on Tuesday night, which will be the toughest challange at the Shay so far this season.
