1) Origins
Welling United FC were founded in 1963, beginning as a youth team, before expanding and playing in the London Spartan League.
2) Park View
In 1977, the club moved away from their park pitch and into the Park View Road ground that they still use to this day.
3) Football Conference
The 1985/86 season saw Welling United win the Southern League Premier Division by 23 points and earn automatic promotion to the Football Conference.
4) League Struggles
The Wings struggled in the Football Conference from the 1986/87 season onwards, finishing no higher than 11th in 14 seasons save for two occasions.
5) FA Cup
The club’s league struggles were juxtaposed with a good run in the FA Cup, reaching the First Round in six successive seasons, knocking out Football League side Gillingham on one occasion. They also made one Third Round appearance, losing at home to Blackburn Rovers.
6) Paul Parker
Former England World Cup player Paul Parker took over in the 2003/04 season, and took them to the top half of the Southern League Premier Division. They gained a place in the new Conference South, but after spending the first three months of the new season in bottom, Parker left the club by mutual consent.
7) Nearly Moments
Welling United were handed a transfer embargo and a five-point deduction at the start of the 2010/11 season, and went on to miss out on a playoff place by just one point. The next season, they were defeated in the playoff final.
8) 13 Years
After a 13-year absence from the top level of non-league football, Welling United clinched the Conference South title and won promotion to the Conference Premier in the 2012/13 season.
9) Consecutive Wins
During the Conference South title-winning season of 2012/13, the team broke the league’s consecutive wins record. They won 12 games in a row between November and February.
10) Draw at The Shay
Dean Frost’s first match in charge of the Wings was a 1-1 draw away against Halifax Town. This was the club’s first goal and first point at the Shay.
