Tamworth supporter Mathew Hilton has been supporting the Lambs for most of his life and is now a member on the Supporters Club Committee of the Midland side.
Also, a match-day steward at the Lamb Ground, in August Mathew was hoping that Tamworth would be Vanarama National League North champions come May but is now adamant that play-offs are the aim.
“The season is going very well. I think we should have picked up a few more points than we have but that has been down a lot to losing too our local rivals.
“I hoped that Tamworth would top the league at the start of the season but now we need play-offs at least.
“I have been a Tamworth fan most of my life, apart from the odd game watching Wolverhampton Wanderers.
“It’s the atmosphere at the Lamb Ground when it is rocking that keeps me coming back for sure.
“Being a steward, I get to watch the games far more if it’s a small number of supporters, but if I very large number of supporters came sadly I’d have to focus on my role more.”
In the reverse fixture, Halifax came out comfortable winners at the MBi Shay Stadium to remain top of the table but Mathew is confident that this time things will be more in Tamworth’s favour thanks to three inform individuals.
“My current memory of the Lambs playing against Halifax is this season where we lost 4-0 and we were poor, very poor.
“The three main threats to FC Halifax Town come from all over the park.
“James Belshaw will be one for the Halifax fans to look out for. I am my opinion he is the best goalkeeper in the league by far.
“Danny Newton too. He is a striker than will run for everything not stop, and is always likely to get at least one goal a game.
“Lastly, Joe Clarke. A midfielder who is on top of his game and is making a habit of scoring goals.
“Obviously, this time round I hope things are different. It’s a Tamworth win on Saturday for me.”
We thank Mathew and everyone at the Tamworth FC Supporters Club for their views ahead of the match.
