The official website has caught up with new signing Dayle Southwell to ask him his thoughts on pre-season and the build up to the new campaign.
How has your off-season been so far?
“It was stressful for the first few weeks with trying to get this deal sorted and trying to get everything over the line, so it’s been a bit different than usual. It was hard in that sense but once it was all sorted and out the way it’s been nice. I’ve just got back from my holiday so I’m all recharged and I can’t wait to get going now.”
How excited are you to begin your first pre-season with FC Halifax Town?
“I’m very excited, I mean it’s a big club, there’s a lot of fans and the history of the club is really good. I can’t wait to meet all the boys now and start to work with the manager as well.”
Has the manager told you what to expect?
“Hard work first and foremost, I think that’s a given really. Pre-seasons are always hard and I expect nothing different this year but I’m ready to go for it, I can’t wait to get going.”
How important do you think pre-season games are in terms of preparation for the new season?
“I think they’re massive. I think you can always do as much fitness work as you want but in terms of games and actual match fitness, the games are priceless. Hopefully we do well in the games but the main thing is to get your match fitness up and play as many minutes as possible.”
Vanarama National League fixtures are released on July 4th, who would you like to face in the first match?
“I think it would be nice to get someone like Chesterfield. They’re a big club who’ve just come down so it’d be a good atmosphere. Anyone who’s a big club and got a big following would create a good atmosphere at The Shay, it’d be really good.”
