Nuneaton: We Got The Job Done

Winger Matty Kosylo has praised the resolve of his FC Halifax Town teammates after their comfortable 2-0 victory at home to Nuneaton.

The performance put the Shaymen up in to fifth in the Vanarama National League North as the side made it sixteen points from eighteen games in the league.

Manager Billy Heath was keen to highlight how important the teamโ€™s post-Christmas fixtures were during their sticky spell and how this run of games had the potential to be season defining.

Town duly delivered and winger Matty Kosylo picked up man of the match in a game where the home side really received the fruits of their labour after the previous five unbeaten games.

Kosylo said: โ€œI think we got the job done, I think that describes it, we were comfortable all game and I thought we could have put them to sword a little bit more.

We had chances, but at the end of the day we got the three points and thatโ€™s all that matters.โ€

Halifax put on a confident showing in front of a crowd of 1,573 as forward Adam Morgan and Kosylo scored the goals.

With most possession and chances going in Townโ€™s favour, Nuneaton will have left the MBi Shay counting their lucky stars that it was just two goals that they conceded.

Kosylo looked assured all afternoon and slotted his forty-eighth-minute penalty away with relative ease.

But the former Nantwich man batted off claims that it was his best performance in a Town shirt to date: โ€œItโ€™s a game of opinions, I feel like Iโ€™m in a good run of form at the minute and my aim is to just keep that going.

Iโ€™m just glad that Iโ€™m in the team because at the start of the season I had a frustrating patch where I was in and out.

Then I got the injury and I was out for two months and it really frustrated me because I was hoping to hit the ground running when I got here. So hopefully Iโ€™m showing what Iโ€™m capable of and Iโ€™m enjoying it.โ€

The showing was a stark contrast to the atmosphere around the MBi Shay just a handful of home games ago.

It was noticeable that the players left the pitch with a smile on their face as they gave the North and East Stands their customary clap of appreciation: โ€œItโ€™s just football isnโ€™t it, its football, you have times where you go home on Saturday nights and you want to quit football because itโ€™s got that bad and thatโ€™s how much it affects you.

Weโ€™re working hard for each-other and earning the right to play against teams rather than just sitting back and expecting to go through the motions.โ€

Kosylo was insistent that himself and the team wanted to put the ten-game winless streak behind them: โ€œWe had a tough patch and weโ€™ve come out after the Christmas games and we needed to turn things around because weโ€™ve had a run of ten games without a win which isnโ€™t acceptable.โ€

He also conceded, Town havenโ€™t matched their own expectations for the season: โ€œI think everyone knows the expectations for Halifax being in this league, I think everyone expects us to get into the play-offs and thatโ€™s no different to what weโ€™re expecting.

Weโ€™ll keep going and hopefully weโ€™ll get into the play-off spots.โ€

Townโ€™s next game will be at Aggborough as the in-form side will make the trip down to face Worcester City, a team that currently sit one place outside the relegation zone in 19th.
