FC Halifax Town’s Youth team will be competing in a new league in the National League Youth Alliance next season.

The new league fits under the umbrella of the National League Youth Alliance and is a key part of The National League’s ‘Growing our Game’ strategy with the objective to enable National League Clubs to develop more and better home-grown players.

The young Shaymen have been invited to take part in the Northern section which will also feature; Hartlepool United, York City, Solihull Moors, AFC Fylde, Chester, Kidderminster Harriers, Guiseley, Alfreton and Darlington.

As well as the new league format National League Clubs have been given the opportunity to apply for a licence to operate a National League Football Academy.  Set criteria and standards are required to attain and maintain The National League Football Academy status.

Head of Youth, Junior and Community Football Development, Steve Nichol, said:

“The process of applying for the National League Football Academy has been an excellent opportunity to evaluate and challenge the structures we have in place.  We are confident in the programme we have in place but also welcome the scrutiny that will help up to progress the scheme further.

“We believe our players already enjoy the benefits of a safe and secure environment in which they follow a structured coaching curriculum and college education programme.

“The new league format will expose our players to a higher standard of competition, we are ready for the challenge and we see it as being key for the longer-term development of our players and programme.  The league provides the highest standard of competition outside of the Football League.

“We will also continue to work with the National League towards a new form of youth player contract providing more protection to clubs at this level and help to protect the Club’s investment.”

Participation in the new league format will involve additional investment to support travel, the Club have also advertised for host families to broaden our range of recruitment.
