The FA Trophy run begins yet again for Halifax, as the champions from last year shall be as hopeful as ever. Halifax clash with Matlock Town in the Third Round of Qualifying, and face a long journey down south. Both teams currently sit 6th in their respected divisions, Matlock Town competing in the Northern Premier Division, and Billy Heath’s men shall be looking to make a strong come-back after capitulating at the weekend against 8-man Curzon.
Current Form:
The 4-2 loss away at Curzon proved to be a bizarre result for the Shaymen, as they came into the match in good form. Two home wins before the clash set the Shaymen in good stead, but Curzon proved to be too much to handle as Halifax fell down the table, and once again out of the play-off spots. Away form hadn’t been a problem for the Shaymen, as Heath’s men picked up their fourth away win on the bounce throughout September and October, and then managed to earn a draw against a strong Dagenham & Redbridge side. This is a chance for the Shaymen to resurrect themselves, and make right of a woeful performance against Curzon. Matlock lost on Tuesday night at Barwell, ending their four game win streak. Matlock boast a powerful home record, unbeaten in ten, including seven wins.

Marcus Dinanga on loan from Burton Albion currently boasts eleven goals in the league, from just nineteen games. After signing his first pro contract in the summer with Burton Albion, Dinanga was keen to impress manager Nigel Clough in a bid to earn first team football. The pacey striker/winger has helped Matlock Town to their best ever FA Cup run in 27 years, coming just shy of the first round proper.
Last Meeting:
The two sides met in the 2010/2011 season in the Northern Premier League, during Halifax’s promotion run. The last clash was on the 2nd of April at the Shay, and the game ended as a 2-2 draw. Matlock have failed to find a way out of the Northern Premier League but the Shaymen have their eyes set on the Football League.
