After a disappointing result, away at Curzon Ashton in the league, FC Halifax Town’s attention turns to the FA Trophy. The Shaymen begin their quest to defend their title with a trip to Northern Premier League Premier Division side Matlock Town.

Ahead of the game, we spoke to Matlock supporter and social media contributor James Griffiths, to get his take on their season so far.

What is your association with the club?

I began supporting Matlock through my father, who took me to games at a very young age. Once I hit my teens I became involved with the club, helping where I can and I’m now social media manager/ developmental press officer at the club.

Sum up the season so far?

The season is going well under the new management duo of Glenn Kirkwood and Craig Hopkins. I feel we have a team who understands what the club means to the fans and together we’ve made big steps forward.

Favourite away trip you’ve had so far?

My favourite away trip is usually Whitby Town (if it’s a nice day) nothing like sun, sea, fish and chips with some football.

Who has been the stand out player for Matlock this season?

Best player is a difficult one as we’ve got so many that are just so fundamental to the team but one of my stand out favourites so far would have to be Joe Doyle-Charles and Michael Williams. They’ve become the heartbeat of our team since their arrivals. Both lads have a never say die attitude and leave it all out on the pitch.

Season expectations come April/May time?

My aspirations for the season would be to finish top ten if possible but with this team I don’t see any reason why we couldn’t push on and do greater things especially in the cups and such.

Give us your thoughts on our previous encounter (2-2 affair back in July)

The pre-season game was a great affair as there is clearly a good friendship between the two clubs and of course with Liam King being an ex-Gladiator he got a good reception in what was a tight game with plenty of changes during as is the nature of pre-season.

And finally, what is your prediction for the game on Saturday?

We come into this on the back of two consecutive victories. We couldn’t face you at a better time given the result at Curzon so why not feel go into this one confident? I’m going with 2-1 to Matlock.
