FC Halifax Town put a dominate performance to dispatch Maidenhead United 5-2. Goals from Charlie Cooper, Jack Redshaw, Jamie Allen, Michael Duckworth, and a deflected Devante Rodney strike was enough to give the Shaymen a comfortable win.

Despite a slow start to the second half, five goals in the last half an hour saw the score jump from 1-1 to 5-2 in front of 1981.

Maidenhead started the better of the two sides winning a corner in the opening minutes. Josh Smile swung it in, but it did not beat the first man.

On the 8th minute, Town had a great chance to take the lead. Devante Rodney slipped Jack Redshaw in behind, but a great save from Taye Ashby-Hammond saw the effort tipped wide. Redshaw’s short corner found Brown but his header went narrowly wide for another corner. Maidenhead did well to clear the corner.

Five minutes, Maidenhead won a free kick in a dangerous position after Smile was brought down on the edge of the box. Danny Whitehall stepped up but sent his shot wide of the post.

After some good work down the right-hand side from Danny Williams, Maidenhead could only head behind for a corner. Some good play from Redshaw saw him shoot from a tight angle to win another corner. This time a floated cross found Matty whose header was pushed wide. Redshaw put the third corner in but Maidenhead cleared.

Town found the breakthrough on the 31st minute. After Williams’ saw his low cross cleared, it bounced to Charlie Cooper on the edge of the box. Having a first time shot he curled it with the outside of his foot and found the top left corner.

After a brief coming together, there was a little scrap which resulted in both Danny Whitehall and Niall Maher picking up yellow cards.

On the brink of half time, Maidenhead levelled. A free kick was awarded on the touchline. A strong cross whipped in towards the near post found the head of Ryan Upward who made no mistake to make it 1-1. Jeff King picked up a booking following the goal.

Seth Twumasi received the first yellow of the second half after a poor challenge. Matty Brown received one not long after following a late challenge, plenty of Maidenhead fans believed it should have been red.

After a slow start to the second half, Halifax regained the lead after a clinical counter attack in the 62nd minute. Rodney went in behind and squared it to Redshaw in the box who could not miss to make it 2-1.

Halifax got their third of the day just six minutes later. From a Maidenhead corner, Sam Johnson caught the cross before launching it forward to Cameron King. Having run half the pitch, King found Rodney on the edge of the box. Rodney’s shot took a deflection before ending up in the net.

With just nine minutes left on the clock, Jamie Allen got Halifax’s fourth. After some sloppy defensive work from Joe Ellul, Allen nicked the ball to go one-on-one with the keeper. The forward showed great composure to slot it under the keeper making it 4-1.

Halifax completed the rout after an excellence finish from Michael Duckworth. Halifax playing some really nice football which saw Josh Staunton go through on goal. His shot forced a good save from the keeper, but the ball eventually fell to Duckworth who fired into the roof of the net.

Almost out of nowhere, Maidenhead picked up a second consolation goal. Substitute Bernard Mensah received the ball 30-yards from goal and let fly. It beat Johnson before finding the top corner to make it 5-2.
