FC Halifax Town lost for the first time in 2019 in the league since 22nd December with a 1-0 defeat to Maidenhead United courtesy of a Ayo Obileye 72nd minute penalty.

Former Town striker Mike Fondop-Talom was fouled in the box following a James Comley corner by defender Nathan Clarke and Ayo Obileye slotted the ball home coolly to put the Magpies ahead.

It was a game of few chances for either side in reality with little quality up front for either side, the first chance came to Ricky Gabriel but his long-distance effort was never troubling Sam Johnson in the Halifax goal.

Cameron King tried to find Manny Duku on the edge of the box, who has extended his loan deal with the Shaymen until the end of the season, however his touch was too heavy and went through to Carl Pentney.

Town’s best effort fell to Devante Rodney after James Berrett’s ball into the box was cleared to Matt Kosylo. His effort fell to Rodney who headed over Pentney but onto the roof of the net.

Fondop-Talom saw a 25-yard effort go wide when he probably should have done better with time and space in the usually tight Shaymen defence.

James Comley feigned to shoot, turned and from 25 yards curled a shot into Johnson’s hands, before firing another one well wide from 40 yards out just before the half time break.

Into the second half, Fondop-Talom had a shot straight at Johnson from 25 yards out before a couple of long-range efforts were deflected wide for Maidenhead corners.

From one of these, the visitors took the lead with Obileye’s penalty and they were able to hold onto for a rare Town home defeat

Town boss Jamie Fullarton made three substitutions but was unable to find a way past a resolute Maidenhead defence.
