FC Halifax Townโs youth team ran out 5-0 victorโs as they eased past Litherland Remyca.
Gary da Costa, a brace from Matthew Rowson, and two own goals saw Steve Nicholโs young Shaymen into the next round of the FA Youth Cup.
We spoke to Nichol after the game and he was delighted with the way his side showed how good they can be.
โOn one side, itโs great to get the result and itโs good for the lads as theyโve been rewarded with an excellent tie in the next round. We maybe could have had one or two more goals. The pleasing thing is we were more clinical today in front of goal in comparison to other games this season.โ
The U19 side led by Nichol havenโt lost yet this season and the manager is happy with the strong defence allowing this to be the case.
โI think for us in the 4-5 games weโve played so far weโve conceded 1 goal, thatโs a good base which we can build on.โ
Nichol did admit the side can still get better though.
โOverall, thereโs many aspects of the performance we can improve. Maybe we havenโt executed the way weโve tried to play today as well as we would have liked too, but overall a good result.โ
Having overcome two teams already in this competition, the young Shaymen have set up a tie with Sunderland.
โObviously, itโs going to be a tough game, but itโs the type of game you want to play. The players will be looking forward to it and weโll be doing the best we can to be ready for that game as well. We know Sunderland have watched tonight, so weโll be trying to do the same to them.โ
