His last game, his last interview and a smashing win for Neil Young. Young has taken charge of the club for three games winning a solid point against Wrexham, an unfortunate loss to Ebbsfleet and now this massive win against Hartlepool United. After the win Neil Young spoke to Shaymen TV.

Young straight away did mention his three games. The caretaker boss said, โ€œIโ€™m delighted with the players and the performance, but to be fair apart from 20-25 minutes on Saturday, I think weโ€™ve been excellent in all three games Iโ€™ve been in charge.โ€

โ€œItโ€™s a good return, (4 points) but as weโ€™ve just spoken, it could have been nine if weโ€™re being greedy. At this moment in time weโ€™ve got to win as many games as we can, it was about getting points but itโ€™s about performances and having a frame work to go forward. But Iโ€™m more than pleased and delighted with the resultโ€.

With Tom Denton missing out with an injury The Shaymen were missing the target man theyโ€™re apparently known for. Young spoke about the clubโ€™s different style of play.

โ€œThey were very direct and we had to compete with and we done really well with that. We didnโ€™t have Tom (Denton) in the squad and we had to find another way. This team has been labelled in the past โ€˜oh we canโ€™t play without Tomโ€™, I know before theyโ€™ve done it and theyโ€™ve shown again tonight they can do it. They can play, over play a bit for me, but if that confidence is there that confidence is good going forwardโ€.

Continuing with the talk of confidence Neil Young was adamant that this result will be the turning point for The Shaymen โ€œThese lads would run through brick walls, for me just lacking that little bit of confidence. Now theyโ€™ve got a result they can build on that and go forwardโ€.

The club is missing a lot of players through injury at the moment. Tomlinson, Tuton and Hotte all came into the starting eleven and Young was very impressed.

โ€œWeโ€™ve got both Joshโ€™s out (Macdonald and Wilde), Denton out, Clarke out. We havenโ€™t got the biggest pool of playersโ€.

โ€œHe (Ben Tomlinson) was outstanding, I thought they were all very good but I thought Ben would have nicked man of the match. His intelligence, his running, considering he hasnโ€™t played a lot of football was a credit to himโ€.

New signing Mike Fondop-Talom came into the squad tonight and Young mentioned how, as a scout, heโ€™d been looking at him for a while โ€œMike is someone Iโ€™ve been tracking for a while. Heโ€™s different, we talk about having different types of players to give us a different variety from a formation perspective. Heโ€™s big, heโ€™s strong, heโ€™s quick, heโ€™ll run in behind and I think heโ€™ll do well for the football clubโ€.

It will be sad to see Young leave the touchline, he spoke about his time in charge at the club, โ€œIโ€™ve enjoyed it, Iโ€™ve loved it to be fair. It always helps when youโ€™re working with a good group of players. But yeah, Iโ€™ve really enjoyed it, itโ€™s been a pleasure to be able to do it, Iโ€™ve been very proud to have been asked to do it and to be able to give the fans something tonight, has been good. But more importantly itโ€™s not about me, itโ€™s about the players continuing that and the club stays up and build going forward in the futureโ€.
