FC Halifax Town suffered their first home defeat of the season losing 2-1 to Hartlepool United and finishing the game with 9 men on the field.

Early on into the game, Hartlepoolโ€™s Central Midfielder Liam Noble had a curling effort from range denied by the crossbar as Sam Johnson was relieved to see the ball bounce off the woodwork after being all but beaten by the curling strike.

A chance for Town came as Jordan Preston cut inside onto his left foot, beating two defenders for pace. The curling effort was parried away from Scott Loach with Jonathon Edwards failing to convert the rebound.

Matty Brown was booked for dissent towards the referee after believing that there was a foul in the build-up of the chance.

However, the Town captain Matty Brown received a straight red card early in the second half by referee Daniel Middleton. Brown was adjudged to have stamped on a Hartlepool player giving them a penalty and a man advantage

Liam Noble stepped up and converted from 12 yards, curling the ball low to Sam Johnsonโ€™s right.

Shortly after the goal, Matty Kosylo tackled a Hartlepool player from behind to receive his second yellow card, his first coming in the aftermath of Brownโ€™s sending off.

Five minutes after Town went down to nine men, Hartlepool doubled their lead. A corner from the visitors was played short to Featherstone who shifted the ball onto his left before rifling it past Johnson.

Town appeared to be all but out as they scored with minutes to go. An expert counter attack sought Preston carry to ball 50 yards before slotting in Jacob Hanson on the overlap. The right back calmly slotted the ball past Loach despite the goalkeeper getting fingertips to the ball.

Despite Hanson restoring some belief back in the Shaymen, a consolation is all that it turned out to be. After this result, Hartlepool raised up to 5th place while Halifax moved down into 11th.
