Harrogate Town: We’ve Met Before

The last meeting between these two sides came back in 2014 during pre-season.

The Shaymen came out victorious winning 2-1 at Wetherby Road against their Yorkshire rivals. The victory saw the Neil Aspin’s side continue their 100% record in pre-season.

The home side took the lead on 20 minutes when Ashley Worfold scored one of the easier goals that he will ever get in his career. Poor defending from a cross left Worfold to head home after Matt Glennon was stranded.

Town got back onto level terms five minutes prior to half-time, Ross Dyer converted the penalty that he won himself sending Harrogate’s Peter Crook the wrong way.

Dyer could have had another penalty in the second half as he went down under a challenge but this time the referee didn’t deem this one worthy of a spot kick.

Now Inverness Caledonian Thistle striker Scott Boden kept up Aspin’s 100% pre-season record minutes before the final whistle. Boden used his strength to his advantage as he worked his way past the last defender and slotted the ball, as cool as you like, past Crook for a much deserved victory.

There was a third penalty appeal with Matt Pearson clearly being held in the final five minutes but once again referee Dave Richardson waved away the penalty for the second time.

Regarding competitive fixtures, the last time these two met was in the West Riding County Cup back in 2013. Halifax’s defence of the trophy came to an end with Harrogate seeing out a 2-1 victory in front of their own fans.
