With a home fixture against Gainsborough Trinity on the horizon, Matty Kosylo has revealed that he needs to be less critical of himself to keep a clear head ahead of match days.
The forward, who was named Man of the Match on Saturday, struggled to make an impact in the 1-0 defeat to Gloucester City, a rarity compared to his performances in recent weeks.
Speaking after the game, Kosylo outlined that he needs to keep himself relaxed to put in a good performance on the pitch.
“I am feeling fit but in some of the last games I could have been sharper and could have done things better, but I will always think that of myself. At times, I need to be less harsh on myself because I think it affects my game.
“The gaffer tells me to relax and when I do I feel like I do my job a lot better. I am going into Tuesday confident, looking to score and looking to create to help the team.”
The defeat on Saturday wrapped up what was a disappointing afternoon for the home side. Joe Hanks’ second half penalty forced Town to only a second defeat since January, although dropping out of the play-offs was the cost.
For Kosylo and the rest of the squad, the defeat was a hard one to take. However, he believes that there were at least some positives to take to bounce back against Gainsborough at the MBi Shay Stadium.
“It was like Boston and Alfreton. We had chances to put the game to bed in the first half and somehow, we have come away with a 1-0 defeat. The lads are downbeat in there but we have got a game on Tuesday so we have got to be focussed for then.
“I cannot remember a time when the ball has run cleanly to anybody from a corner and I know you create your own luck but sometimes it has to be on your side. Unfortunately, we have come away with a defeat but we can just enter Tuesday like we did in the first half because we did not do much wrong.”
As the weeks go by, every game is becoming more crucial if Town are to fight for a place in the Vanarama National League North play-off spots.
Even though Gainsborough are fighting for their lives, Kosylo makes it clear that Town cannot afford to be complacent on Tuesday night if they are to get the three points.
“In this league, you cannot look at the table too much because the past few games (Boston, Alfreton and Bradford Park Avenue) and they have all been tough. League position is irrelevant in a way so we have to enter the game and just worry about ourselves.”
