National League / FA Buildbase Trophy Round Up#

The Shaymen were in FA Trophy action today against Halesowen Town, who are flying at the top of the Southern League Division One Central and on a confidence boosting cup run themselves. After a very eventless first half, a goal at the beginning of the second half was the difference on the day to ensure the Yeltz continued their cup run to progress to the quarter finals.

National League teams faced up against themselves and lower ranked sides this week in the Buildbase FA Trophy with only a few league games being played this week. Of the league action, the biggest fixture of the afternoon was at Bromley, as they drew two-all with fellow play-off hopefuls Solihull Moors courtesy of a 93rd minute equaliser for the home side (Bromley).

Elsewhere, more late drama in the lower ends of the table as Chesterfield picked up a big 3 points and from 2-1 down with a 94th minute winner thanks to Curtis Weston.

Ex Halifax playmaker Liam McAlinden looked to have sealed a win for visiting Stockport in their game at Dagenham & Redbridge with Chike Kandi scoring in the 89th minute, but it wasn’t to be with Dagenham having a goal in the 93rd minute themselves to finish the tie 1-1.

Hartlepool lifted themselves into the top half of the Vanarama National League and an outside hope of play-offs with a 2-0 win against Aldershot, Luke Molyneux and Mark Shelton making the score sheet.

Maidenhead vs Ebbsfleet was postponed due to Ebbsfleet being involved in cup action against Royston Town and losing 1-0 at home to the BetVictor Southern League Premier Division side.

In the FA Trophy elsewhere though Notts County overcame league rivals Yeovil 2-1 away from home, surviving a late fight back from Yeovil who made it 2-1 in the 77th minute thanks to Courtney Duffus, but ultimately the day belonged to Notts.

Aveley beat Chelmsford City 3-1 comfortably with goals in either half and Concord Rangers overcame Leamington on penalties (4-3) after full time ended 1-1 and extra time ended 2-2.

Yorkshire rivals and promotion hopefuls Harrogate beat Eastleigh 2-0 scoring in both halves’ to also progress. Alex Bradley and Jack Emmett making it onto the score sheet.

National League relegation threatened Fylde beat Dorking Wanderers 4-2 to progress also, despite a spirited performance from Dorking.

Finally, Barnet swept aside National League high-flyers Barrow with 3 goals in 9 minutes. First Cheye Alexander, then Simeon Akinola a minute later before Josh Walker all but cemented the result for Barnet.
