FC Halifax Town ravel down to the south coast to face Eastleigh in the Vanarama National League. The Shaymen come into the game off a 0-0 draw at home to Havant & Waterlooville, Eastleigh come into the game after beating play-off rivals Salford City 0-2. Here we’ll take a look the player that the Shaymen will need to watch.

Striker Paul McCallum is the main threat to Jamie Fullerton’s strong defence. The 25 year old has scored 21 goals this season; this is one behind the National League top scorer Danny Rowe of A.F.C Fylde. Also, McCallum has the best goal to minutes played ration in the league, McCallum is scoring every 122 minutes he plays.

Without McCallum it could be seen that Eastleigh would struggle without the striker. His goals are pretty much invaluable to The Spitfires, due to the total of goals Eastleigh has scored in the league which is 44. The next highest scorer for Eastleigh is Ben Williamson with six goals. Proving more how invaluable McCallum is the brace he scored away at Salford City which took The Spitfires above Salford into fifth place.

McCallum joined The Spitfires in the summer of 2017 after being released by Leyton Orient after their relegation from League Two. This would be the first time McCallum would play at the fifth tier of English football. McCallum started his career with now National League South side Dulwich Hamlet. He then joined West Ham United as an 18 year old. McCallum would be sent out on loan spells to; Rochdale, Wimbledon, Aldershot, Torquay, Hearts and Portsmouth. McCallum struggled to really cement a place on his loans never making more than 10 appearances at his loan clubs. All before McCallum was released by The Hammers in the summer 2015, and then joined Leyton Orient scoring 15 goals in 43 appearances.

If you are unable to travel down to Eastleigh for the game, you can listen to live commentary from the Silverlake Stadium on Shaymen Audio from 2:45pm for a 3pm kick off this Saturday.
