FC Halifax Town overcame Eastleigh to beat the play off chasing side 1-0 as James Ferry’s 75th minute winner saw Jamie Fullarton ‘s side take all three points away from the Silverlake Stadium.

James Hardy had the best chance of the first half for The Shaymen. Some great work from new signing, Manny Duku saw him beat his man to get to the by-line and pull back for the man on loan from AFC Fylde. From 10 yards out, Hardy leant too far back and smashed over the bar.

After a free kick from Matty Kosylo that beat the wall was batted away by Luke Southwood, Eastleigh played with confidence for the rest of the first half.

The home sides best chance fell to Chris Zebroski as the striker headed his effort against Sam Johnson’s bar from no more than 3 yards out. The rebound fell to right back, Josh Hare. His volley was well cleared off the line by Ryan Sellars.

A flurry of shots from Ben Strevens’ side saw some very resolute defending from The Shaymen. Blocks from Clarke, Maher and Sellars again saw the sides clean sheet stay intact.

At half time, Scott Quigley entered the field of play in replace of Duku, who had already picked up a yellow card.

Fullarton’s side were the better team in the second half with Devante Rodney and Quigley working hard up front.

James Hardy, Matty Kosylo and James Ferry were pulling the strings in behind and created many shooting opportunities.

Rodney was slipped through by Quigley but at the critical moment slipped and his effort was a tame one straight at Southwood.

Quigley also had a couple of chances as a constant handful when he came on. One of note was when he twisted and turned in the box, but his shot was blocked.

Finally, the goal came after some good play from the Shaymen paid off. Quigley took the ball to the by line and whipped in a low cross. After the ball made its way across the 6-yard-box, James Ferry was there to smash it home and give his side something to protect.

Led by captain Matty Brown they certainly did protect the lead. Only one real chance fell to the home side in the last 15 minutes.  Paul McCallum found himself in space in the box, but his acrobatic effort flew over Johnson’s cross bar.

Cameron King saw his return to the action late on in the game. He entered the field of play late on to replace James Hardy who worked hard throughout.

With 7 points picked up in the last three games, The Shaymen are starting to work their way back up the table.
