Ahead of tomorrow’s game against Dover Athletic, here’s a look at some of the previous clashes between the two sides…
FC Halifax Town and The Whites have faced each other six times thus far, with Town having the upper hand on their opponents so far, winning on three occasions. Dover have won on two occasions, while their most recent meeting has been the only draw between Halifax and Dover.
As aforementioned, the last game between Town and Dover has been the only stalemate between the two teams in their head to head history.
In December 2017, the teams met on Matchday 27 in The National League at Dover’s Crabble Athletic Ground in a goalless draw. Despite the lack of goalmouth action, it was a fairly unfriendly affair, with Dover receiving two yellow cards while for Halifax, Tom Denton and Jake Hibbs both received a caution. In addition to this, striker Danny Clarke was sent off after two bookable offences.
In the reverse fixture in August 2017, there was a little more to shout about as Dover came out 1-2 winners against Halifax in a game of late drama at The Shay on Matchday 4.
The first goal of the game didn’t arrive until the 87th minute when Dover’s Mitch Brundle struck to give his team the advantage. However, in the first minute of second half injury time, Tom Denton levelled to seemingly make sure the sides shared the points on this particular occasion. But Dover’s Tobi Sho-Silva played the role of super sub as he popped up four minutes later to send the Dover fans back home happy.
During the 2015/16 season, the two sides had a win apiece in their league meetings.
In November 2015, it was a goal frenzy at The Shay as Halifax ran out 4-2 winners against The Whites. The Shaymen were 3-1 by half time as Shaun Tuton, Nicky Wroe and Jordan Burrow all struck for the home side before the break while Ricky Miller scored for Dover between Wroe’s and Burrow’s strikes. After the break, Dover narrowed the deficit when Stefan Payne scored in the 63rd minute to make it 3-2. However, Tuton grabbed his brace twelve minutes later to give Halifax all three points.
Dover avenged their defeat in March 2016 when they claimed a narrow 1-0 victory. A goal from Nicky Deverdics in the 8th minute was the difference between The Shaymen and The Whites on this occasion.
The sides first met in 2014/15 following Dover’s promotion to The National League the previous season.
The two sides kicked off their National League season against each other on 9th August 2014 at The Crabble Athletic Ground. Scott McManus’s goal for The Shaymen separated the two teams on the south coast in a 0-1 win.
In February 2015, Halifax completed the league double over Dover at The Shay as they won 3-2. Halifax were 2-0 up after 19 minutes courtesy of goals from Lois Maynard and Richard Peniket. Thomas Murphy halved the deficit for Dover just after the half hour mark but Halifax increased their lead in the 66th minute when Jamie Jackson struck to make it 3-1. Dan Holman scored 13 minutes before time to make it an interesting end to the game, but Halifax were able to hold on for the win.
