After a disappointing defeat to Darlington on Boxing Day, Town midfielder David Lynch says he is confident the Shaymen can respond with a positive result against the same opponents on New Year’s Day.
Lynch says the team know the mistakes that were made in the game and but believes the unusual situation of playing them twice in six days helps the team.
“No matter what the result on Boxing Day, it was always going to help us prepare for this game because we’ll know how they’ll play and their tactics, but you never know in football and they might try and change things round. I’m confident that if we play the way we often do at home that we’ll get three points.”
Lynch believes that Darlington will be a big test on Sunday, and the way they play will bring a tough challenge for the home side.
“They’re a very direct team. They get the big lads up early, and play runners off him, which is always difficult to play against, but if we can defend well and nullify individual errors then we should be able to manage our game.”
Lynch has also nodded towards the recent string of results that has seen Halifax drop away from the play off places. He says he knows that Billy Heath’s squad can right their wrongs and cliMBing back up the table.
“It’s football – everyone has a bad run and unfortunately ours is now, but we’ve got some very experienced lads who guide the younger players, like Hotte and Danny Hone and they are great leaders. When things aren’t going well, they step up and lead the younger ones through. “
“If you don’t work hard then you don’t get rewards, and although I wouldn’t say that’s the case with us, when things are going well everyone wants the ball, but when things are going badly, some players don’t want the ball. Every mistake is criticized and rightly so, but we’ve got to look past that and concentrate on getting back to winning ways. There’s winners throughout this squad and I’ve no doubt we’ll get back on track.”
The midfielder has called on the Shaymen faithful to get behind the lads on Sunday, and called them “superb.”
“Our fans are huge to us. We know if we make mistakes they’ll get on our backs and The Shay will be a hostile place to play football, so we need to perform for them, but equally they need to get behind us. Hopefully we can perform well, maybe get an early goal and get the place rocking, because they deserve better than what they’re watching now, and we want to give them better.”
