Ahead of FC Halifax Town’s trip to Dagenham & Redbridge, here’s a look at some of the previous clashes between the two sides…
You only must go as far back as 18th August for the most recent meeting between The Shaymen and The Daggers. The two sides met at The Shay on Matchday 5 of this season’s National League and it was a win for Jamie Fullarton’s side as they came out 2-1 winners.
Matty Kosylo opened the scoring in the 21st minute with his then-second goal of the campaign. However, the lead was short lived as Dagenham equalised 12 minutes later thanks to striker Tomi Adeloye. The No.19’s goal meant the sides went in level at half time.
But in the 59th minute, it was the turn of a Halifax striker to get on the scoresheet as Jonathan Edwards got on the end of Nathan Clarke’s glancing header to give The Shaymen the lead for the second time and ultimately clinching the three points for the home side.
The sides met at The Shay in March 2018 on Matchday 32 of The National League. It was the exact scoreline as aforementioned as Halifax ran out 2-1 victors.
Dagenham, on this occasion were the team to break the deadlock as Charlee Adams scored in the 40th minute. The scoreline stayed at 0-1 to the visitors until midway through the second half as a Dagenham man scored again, but this time at the wrong end of the pitch as forward Michael Cheek put the ball into his own net to draw The Shaymen level. With the momentum now with the home team, it took just one minute for them to go in front for the first time as Mike Fondop-Talom notched the deciding goal to give Halifax the win.
In the reverse fixture, The Daggers managed to come out on top as they beat Town 3-1 in September 2017. It was a first half blitz from Dagenham as they scored all three of their goals within a 28-minute spell in the first period. Craig Robson scored their first in the 17th minute and their lead was doubled shortly after as Corey Whitely scored just five minutes later. Their first half salvo was completed when Halifax’s Scott Garner put through his own net to give the home side a three-goal advantage.
The Shaymen did manage to pull one goal back in the second half as Matty Brown scored with 20 minutes remaining, but it was The Daggers who gained the three points on this occasion.
During the 2016-17 season, the two sides met in the First Round of The FA Cup with Halifax being drawn away to The Daggers in November 2016. The tie at Victoria Road ended up in a stalemate meaning the sides would have to go head to head all over again at The Shay.
The replay at The Shay took place ten days later with there being a lot more to shout about as super sub Matty Kosylo produced a last gasp winner to send Halifax through to the next round. Tom Denton opened the scoring midway through the first half. Dagenham’s chances of progressing were dealt a blow as Oliver Hawkins was sent off in the 57th minute. It was a couple of minutes of madness as Halifax then missed a penalty a minute later. Despite having a man less, Dagenham rallied and equalised in the 73rd minute through Corey Whitely.
With the minutes ticking down towards extra time, Kosylo popped up in the dying embers of the game to send The Shaymen through to Round Two!
