Chesterfield: We’ve Met Before

FC Halifax Town will travel to Chesterfield this Tuesday in the Vanarama National League. Here we will look at some of the previous meetings between the two sides.

9th February 2019 – Chesterfield 1-0 Town – National League

The last time these two sides met ended in favour of The Spireites, as both teams looked for three points to drag themselves away from the bottom four. In an uneventful game at The Proact Stadium, it was Scott Boden who stuck away a penalty 20 minutes from time.

13th October 2018 – Town 1-1 Chesterfield – National League

This game would be the first time The Shaymen and The Spireites have met since Town’s reformation. Points would be shared at The Shay as Matty Kosylo put Town ahead halfway through the second half. But a familiar face came back to haunt The Shaymen as Tom Denton equalled the scores 10 minutes from time.

22nd October 2002- Chesterfield 2-0 Town LDV Vans Trophy

Despite no longer being in the Football League at the time, Town were still included in the LDV Vans Trophy, now known as the Leasing.com Trophy. Nevertheless, Town failed to gain a victory over Chesterfield, who were two leagues higher at the time, and exited the competition in the first round.

19 October 1991 – Town 2-0 Chesterfield – Division Four

Town fans must look back just shy of 28 years for a victory over The Spireites, in the old Division Four now renamed League Two. Town would go onto finish the season in 20th position in the league. Now Premier League side Burnley were crowed Division Four champions.

12th January 1934- Town 5-0 Chesterfield Division – Three (North)

The Shaymen’s biggest victory over Chesterfield came 85 years ago, in 1934, with a 5-0 drubbing at the Shay. Bill Chambers scored three of his 30 goals for the Shaymen that season against in this match, with Arthur Mercer and Fred Tunstall, who himself netted 20 for Town in that campaign, the other scorers for Alex Raisbeck’s side.
