The 2020/21 National League season ended for the Shaymen with defeat to Chesterfield, and Skipper Nathan Clarke spoke to Shaymen TV as the side missed out on a play-off place.

Halifax needed to beat Chesterfield and hope other results went in the favour of Town. Sadly, a Liam Mandeville opener and a Nathan Tyson winner on either side of a Darren Stephenson equaliser meant that Town missed out.

Clarke began by giving his feelings on Halifax missing out on the top seven; “We are disappointed, but I am sure the fans would agree that we gave it our all and we were just short. We fought for every ball and every chance however, it just wasn’t to be today.”

The match was the first this season with a home crowd, and the Halifax Town Captain was very upbeat about having the presence of fans back into the ground. He said, “It was really pleasing to see the number of fans that turned out today, from the word go they were behind us and backed us all the way.”

Clarke added, “A lot of the players haven’t played in front of the Town fans before, so it was really nice for them to feel the full backing that the fans can give.”

This season was Nathan’s first as the Club Captain and the centre half spoke about the pride he has had this season leading his hometown club; “It’s been a really good added bonus being the Captain of my hometown club. Overall, it is fantastic, and I have had some really good insights and a good relationship with the management”.

Clarke ended the interview by giving his thoughts on whether Halifax could go the extra hurdle next season, and he also spoke about his plans for the 2021/2022 season.

He said, “Firstly, it is one of those which has been parked really as far as contracts for next season go, as the Gaffer wanted us to keep focussed on the last few games of the season and that’s what he and the Club have decided to do.”

Nathan added, “Everyone has fought hard and worked well to show and prove why they deserve a new contract. Then looking at next season, I’d say we did well in 2019/2020 and 2020/2021 – we came close, so I think the management team will be looking to strengthen us well and on a personal view, I would love to be here again next season leading the lads out.”
