FC Halifax Town qualified for the play-offs at the first time of asking at this level. Town welcomed Cambridge who finished second in the league to The Shay. 3,668 fans came down at supported Town and they would see a naturally tight affair, both teams not wanting to risk too much and put themselves out if the game in the first leg. Seven minutes from time The Shaymen won a penalty and Lee Gregory did what he had done all season, and put the ball in the back of the net to give The Shaymen the advantage in the tie.
