Tom Denton and Alex Simmons were on form in the 4-1 victory over Boston United both grabbing a brace, taking their goal tallies to 10 and 6 respectively.

The Shaymen moved up to fourth courtesy of that victory and it’s now six consecutive victories in all competitions for Billy Heath’s men. It was a convincing performance from the fourth placed side and the forwards were firing on all cylinders.

We spoke to both Tom Denton and Alex Simmons in their thoughts on the victory and their fantastic performances…

Denton said: “It’s always a tough place to come and we’ve got an early goal which is always nice. We’ve pushed on second half and got a good victory in the end.” Simmons added: “The sending off in the second half makes it a little bit easier but we were in control up to that point anyway I thought, it was a good win.”

It was interesting viewing from the stands to see Tom Denton and his aerial prowess unmarked from goal-kicks, given the freedom to bring the ball down under his spell…

“That’s probably the first time I have seen that, when the lads are telling me to bring it down its just a free pass really, it worked and we got a good 4-1 win.”

The first thing that comes into mind when you think of the former North Ferriby forward is his headed goals and ability in the air but his second was fired from just outside the box in true striker fashion…

“It’s not a bad one, Jake Hibbs has put it into me and I just thought why not and I’ve curled it into the top corner. Some of the lads in there are saying its goal of the season, so I’m happy with that.”

The Shaymen got their second goal of the match within precisely 22 seconds after the referee blew his whistle for second-half to commence – Many fans weren’t even back in their seats and still at the food bar when Alex Simmons doubled The Shaymen’s advantage…

“I just made a run forward and they have gone to clear it but a little lucky ricochet and I have just slotted it bottom corner, I’m delighted to get that goal straight away.”

The next game for The Shaymen is the rearranged fixture with FC United of Manchester on Tuesday 25th October, a 7:45pm kick-off at the MBi Shay Stadium.
