Ahead of the game between FC Halifax Town and Boreham Wood at The Shay, here’s a look at the previous clashes between the two sides…
The sides first met in 2015-16 with the first meeting taking place at Boreham Wood’s Meadow Park in August 2015. The Wood came out 3-1 winners, with three separate players grabbing a goal for the hosts. Ricky Shakes opened the scoring midway through the first half. But Halifax drew level on the stroke of half time as Jordan Burrow converted a spot kick for The Shaymen. Into the second half and Boreham Wood went ahead for a second time through Jamie Lucas just after the hour mark. The points were secured for The Wood in second half stoppage time as Harry Crawford struck to give his side the three points.
In the reverse fixture in West Yorkshire, The Shaymen came out on top in a five goal thriller. Halifax were 2-0 up inside 23 minutes as Jordan Burrow and James Bolton both converted within three minutes of one another (goals in the 20th minute and 23rd minute respectively). They held that lead until the 57th minute when Harry White was able to halve the deficit. Boreham Wood’s comeback was complete with seven minutes of the match left as Jamie Lucas scored The Wood’s equaliser. However there was time for one more goal as Connor Hughes played the role of super sub as he popped up in injury time to give The Shaymen a late gasp winner.
The sides met twice in 2017-18 courtesy of their National League meetings. They first pitted their wits against one another in October 2017 in Hertfordshire. The sides shared the spoils as they drew 1-1. Bruno Andrade gave Boreham Wood the lead in the 7th minute, however Halifax drew the game level with nine minutes remaining thanks to Adam Morgan’s strike. The Shaymen had to see out the last five minutes of the game as Tom Denton was given his marching orders but the game ended with a point in tact for both teams.
In the reverse fixture at The Shay, both teams got on the scoresheet once more with Halifax winning 2-1. Matty Brown opened the scoring midway through the first half with The Shaymen holding that lead until the half time break. The visitors flew out the traps in the second half as they equalised in the 53rd minute through Morgan Ferrier. However, Halifax retook the lead 11 minutes later through Mike Fondop-Talom. Fondop Talom’s strike was enough to give Halifax the three points.
The two sides have met once already in The National League this season as they met on Matchday 6 on 25th August 2018. It was The Wood who came away 2-1 victors at Meadow Park. The Shaymen did take the lead in the 70th minute through Nathan Clarke however Boreham Wood battled back as Joshua Umerah equalised eight minutes later. With the minutes ticking towards a stalemate, Umerah popped up in the 90th minute to give the home side a dramatic win.
Goals aplenty between the two sides, more of the same on Tuesday evening?
