The new season is in full flight now approaching the bank holiday weekend double header approaching. This Saturday The Shayman travel south to Hertfordshire to face last seasons beaten play-off finalists Boreham Wood. The two sides have met four times all in the league in the 2015/16 season and last season. Here we’ll take a brief look at those results.
08/08/15 Boreham Wood 3-1 FC Halifax
The first fixture between the two sides would be one Town fans would be forgiven for forgetting losing 3-1 down at Meadow Park in Boreham’s first match at this level. The home side took the lead through Ricky Shakes 10 minutes before half time, but that was enough time for Jordan Burrow to equalise from the spot deep in added after Josh MacDonald was brought down. Jamie Lucas but Boreham’s noses back in front halfway through the second half, with Town chasing the game Harry Crawford but the game beyond doubt in the 91st minute giving Boreham Wood the victory.
05/04/16 FC Halifax 3-2 Boreham Wood
The returning fixture at The Shay was a real relegation six-pointer, before kick-off Town were a point behind their opponents taking up the last relegation spot. 20 minutes into the game Jordan Burrow scored again past Boreham and not three minutes later The Shayman found themselves two up with James Bolton heading in a quickfire second goal. The second half saw Boreham come into the game. They pulled one back just before the hour mark via Harry White and equalised Jamie Lucas in the last ten minutes. With a draw not suiting either side both teams went for the win. The winner scored by Conor Hughes in the third minute of added time gave Town the victory and put them out of the relegation zone.
07/10/17 Boreham Wood 1-1 FC Halifax
The Shayman avoided another embaressing defeat down at Meadow Park with a well-deserved point. But it didn’t get off to the best of starts Bruno Andrade put The Wood ahead in the seventh minute with a drilled free kick just outside the box. The Shayman dominated the rest of the game and finally got their goal through Adam Morgan in the 81st minute still enough time for Town to get the victory. But it wasn’t to be Tom Denton was shown red five minutes from time understandably Billy Heath’s 10 men played it safe and hung on for the point.
07/04/18 FC Halifax 2-1 Boreham Wood
The most recent meeting between the two sides at the Shay saw the two teams in battles at opposite ends of the table, The Shayman needing a couple more victories to cement their position in the National League for next season and Boreham Wood were chasing a play-off semi-final spot. Matty Brown on 20 minutes headed home the first goal of the afternoon for The Shayman to take the lead into half time. Boreham started the second half the brighter of the two sides and they made their dominace pay with an equalising goal from Morgan Ferrier. Town were able shift the dominace back in their favour no more than 10 minutes after the equaliser The Shayman were back leading the game from a sublime chip over the keeper from Mike Fondop-Talom giving The Shayman a vital three points.
