FC Halifax Town were 2-0 winners over Barrow on Tuesday night. Kelly Gilchrist spoke to Michael Duckworth

Kelly: Michael, second in the league, 2-0 win over Barrow what’s your thought on that?

Duckworth: Surely, we’ve got to be joint top haven’t we?

Kelly: Joint top yes

Duckworth: Yeah, I’ll take that, it was good, no better start two wins two clean sheets, it’s just what the gaffer wants from us really.

Kelly: We scored again just before the break, is that really the best time to score?

Duckworth: Yeah, it’s vital when you go in one nil up, it changes the team talk but we knew what our game plan was, and we executed it terrifically tonight.

Kelly: The first goal scored from open play, Dayle Southwell’s first goal?

Duckworth: Yeah, I mean I’m guessing he’ll want to get off the mark as soon as possible, so second game in is vital for his confidence, I’m sure he’ll add plenty more this year.

Kelly: Matty Brown with the second goal, another Ben Tomlinson corner, it’s getting a habit?

Duckworth: Yeah, we’re a threat from set pieces and I’m guessing people are going to start seeing that we are, but we work on it in training day in day out and it’s working for us.

Kelly: So, you say that, you’re clearly working on that in training?

Duckworth: Yeah, the delivery from Tommo is first class, we’ve got some great headers of the ball, so it is a weapon and it is successful so far.

Kelly: Pre-season you weren’t with us for most of it, you signed last week, can you tell us what happened?

Duckworth: Yeah, erm a opportunity came up and then I decided to go with that but it didn’t pan out the way I wanted it to so I gave the gaffer a phone and he was more than happy to have me back and look I’m enjoying my football and playing every week so I feel good, I did a pre-season on my own so I wasn’t that far behind the boys, just good to get game time now.

Kelly: As you said two clean sheets, as part of that defence, you must be really pleased?

Duckworth: Yeah, I mean that’s what first and foremost you get judged on a defender is clean sheets so to get two in first two games is a perfect start really.

Kelly: 1654 fans here tonight, very happy out there, and gave you a standing ovation at the end?

Duckworth: Yeah, that’s what we need the 12th man so the more they get behind us the better we will be and it’s a fact so it’s nice to get a good turn out on a Tuesday night.

Kelly: And we’re at home again on Saturday, what’s your thoughts going into the Maidstone game?

Duckworth: I mean we will be confident, confidence will be high now, so we will go into it with a game plan, hopefully we execute it and come away with three points again.

Kelly: The games are coming thick and fast, game on Saturday then we’re playing Tuesday and Saturday again?

Duckworth: Yeah, it’s good when you’ve got that winning mentality, it’s nice to have the games thick and fast and it’s good for the lads to get game time, plenty of games, even the lads coming off the bench playing the part, we need everyone, everyone needs to be involved and ready when they’re called upon.

Kelly: Michael Duckworth, Thank you very much for your time.
