In the wake of the resounding 5-0 victory over Ashton Athletic, Tom Denton has set his sights firmly on scoring 20 goals for FC Halifax Town this season, a landmark number that most strikers up and down the country strive to reach.

Denton gave his side a very early lead by powering a header into the back of the net in just the second minute of the game. It was the strikers eighth of the season already so the big man from North Ferriby looks well on his way to achieve his goal for his new club.

β€œI’m enjoying it, it’s a great set of lads down here. It’s another goal for me today and I’m well on my way to 20 goals. 20 goals is always my aim at the start of a season and I’ve got off to a good start. Hopefully we can push on now and get some good league results.”

The result is a welcome one after the Shaymen suffered a 3-2 loss away at Gainsborough in the league and a break from league competition may be just what the team needs to get back on track.

Inconsistent results in the league has seen Halifax slump to a disappointing 10th position but their place in the league is not a real bother to Denton at the moment but he did admit it was good for the team to get back to winning ways.

β€œIt’s always good to bounce back but you’re going to lose games in football. You’ll lose games when you don’t deserve and you’ll win when you don’t deserve to, it’s all part and parcel of the game but it’s good for the boys to bounce back today.”

The win sees Halifax Town reach the next round in the FA Cup and with memories of their cup run last season which saw them go to Wembley and lift the FA Trophy firmly in their mind, it is exciting to see how far this team can go this year. Denton believes that his team should be aiming to go as far as possible.

β€œYou never know if you get a favourable draw and you could go to the first round or even the second round. You’ve got to take each game as it comes and hopefully we can get to the first round.”

You can see FC Halifax Town’s next game against Bradford Park Avenue at the MBI Shay Stadium on the 24th of September, 3pm kick-off.
