Ashton Athletic: Need To Push Up The League

FC Halifax Town’s latest signing Alex Simmon’s believes that the comfortable 5-0 victory over Ashton Athletic in the FA Cup can help his new side push on and get back on form in the league.

Simmon’s made the loan switch to Halifax just in time to go straight into the squad against Gainsborough Trinity and despite the Shaymen suffering a disappointing 3-2 defeat in that game, the Lincoln City loanee’s performance was one of the few bright sparks.

The attacker bundled home from close range to grab Halifax’s first and hooked a clever pass over his head for Liam King to score his team’s second. Simmons also managed to get on the scoresheet against Ashton making it two in two for the new man. He has stated that the win against Ashton made his second goal for the club much sweeter than his first.

“Obviously I’m happy with the goals. Happier against Ashton than I was against Gainsborough though because we put in a much better performance and got a better result.”

The Shaymen currently sit in 10th position having expected to be much higher in the league. Now the 20-year old thinks the result against Ashton can help the team kick on and much up in the league.

“Hopefully we can put in another performance like this against Bradford Park Avenue. We will need it to push back up the league.”

You can see FC Halifax Town’s next game against Bradford Park Avenue on the 24th of September 3:00pm kick off at the Mbi Shay.
