Altrincham: Thankful For The Chance

Jordan Sinnott’s wonder-strike secured a point for FC Halifax Town against his former club Altrincham and the midfielder was delighted with his immediate impact at the MBi Shay Stadium. He said: “As a new player at the club you want to try and make a mark, so obviously the best thing to do is score a goal. When I picked up the ball I never thought that would end up happening but it’s just opened up for me. I’ll always back myself in front of goal so I’m just happy to see it go in.”

With the Shaymen behind for a second time in their first home Vanarama National League North game of the season, manager Billy Heath turned to Sinnott, who revealed: “He just told me to try and create something so I’m thankful for the chance. Hopefully I’ve repaid him.”

“We’ve shown great resilience and character to come back from the goals behind, and if we had a couple more minutes we really had them backs against the wall – I think we’d have gone on and got the winner.”

Tom Denton was Halifax’s other goal scorer on Tuesday evening and Sinnott was quick to praise his teammate’s impact, already registering four goals in Town colours. “He’s massive, as an out ball for us,” said Sinnott. “I think we can play two types of football – we can get it down and play it – but obviously if we’re under the cosh we can hit the big man and he can look after it for us like he has today against Altrincham and on Saturday against Nuneaton. He’s a well known goal scorer in these leagues so no one’s surprised to see him get four goals.”

Asked what we might expect from Town at the weekend with the visit of Worcester City, Sinnott added: “Hopefully more of the same; that grittiness. If it’s not going well for us we dig in and obviously we have players who can come off the bench who are unlucky not to be starting to be fair. We’ve got the big crowd here and hopefully we can go for three points. They were fantastic, this side behind the goal they never stopped singing, and as a player when you hear that, even with going behind twice, that’s all you can ask for.”
