Billy Heath’s side will be looking to put Saturday’s disappointing 0-0 draw against Boston United behind them with a quick turn-around, as they travel down to Derbyshire for the re-arranged fixture at Alfreton Town.
Saturday’s goalless draw was far from a thriller with the away side frustrating the Shaymen taking a hard-fought point back to Lincolnshire. Wilde came away from Saturday’s game delighted with a clean sheet but also a bit frustrated at only taking one point and not all three…
“We would have liked to have won that, our results have gone but at the end of the day it’s a clean sheet for the back four. We just weren’t at it on Saturday, we could just see it and we don’t really know why. We need to put it right against Alfreton, it’s good that it is so close because it gives us a chance to do it.”
Tuesday’s fixture is one of two games in hand that the Shaymen have over most the promotion pushing sides, with Brackley Town being the other. Two wins and it Town could be looking much more comfortable in the promotion race and Josh knows this…
“We’ve got to win the two games in hand, they’re vital for us to put ourselves in a good position in the play-offs. It could take us to second. We know that we’ve got to win every game now. On Saturday, we weren’t quite at it so we’ve just to play it right against Alfreton and get a win.”
Despite only picking up one point on Saturday it was a good day with several promotions pushing sides dropping points. AFC Fylde, Stockport County, Chorley and Darlington just picked up a single point. With Kidderminster Harriers and Salford City recording defeats which could be massive for Halifax come the end of the season. Josh knows that the boys did get a little fortunate with these results all going in their favour…
“We got let off on Saturday, if all the teams had won around us then there’s a bigger gap so it’s gone in our favour a little with the results. We’ve got to be winning as many games as we can now, all the lads know that.”
The Shaymen currently sit 15 points off table-toppers Fylde. The two games in hand could reduce that margin down to nine if they pick up maximum points in both fixtures. The boys believe they can still catch Fylde at the top…
“We’re pushing as much as we can, we’re trying to push for first still. There’s no reason why not, so we’re just going to keep plugging away and hopefully we can end up as high as we can.”
FC Halifax Town travel to Alfreton Town on Tuesday 7th March, with kick off scheduled for 7:45pm.
