Speaking after the Shaymen’s 2-0 FA Cup defeat to Eastleigh on Tuesday night, Alex Simmons says the loss was undeserved but it provided a good lesson ahead of Saturday’s visit of AFC Telford United:

“It was disappointing because we never deserved to be two down at half time, but it’s taught us some things we can take into Saturday’s game. We’re back in league action so we can focus on picking up some points. We’ve had a bit of time away from the league so it will be good to try and build momentum and get back to winning ways.”

Despite Telford’s 14th place position in the National League North, they have one of the tightest defences in the league, but Simmons is confident Halifax can break the Shropshire opponents down on Saturday.

“It will be a tough game but I back the lads to get a result. We create enough chances and there’s only a few games we’ve not scored in this season, so we’re not worried about playing them, even though they’re a good side.”

The midfielder has also called on the fans to make a big impact on Saturday.

“We have a great set of fans and a massive fan base in comparison to some of the teams in our league and they make a huge difference when they get behind us, and they are always great both home and away, and if they get behind us on Saturday we’ll try our best to put in a good performance.”
