FC Halifax Town Manager Neil Aspin says he is pleased with his squad this season, and admits that not having a midweek fixture ahead of the trip to Aldershot is a welcome respite, especially considering the recent inclement weather that has threatened to postpone more matches:
βItβs pleasing weβve managed to play as many games as we have, and not had many called off. I think itβs just the one weβve had called off, and that will help us because weβre not playing many weeks where we have to play Saturday and Tuesday. Having to play Tuesday after what that (the game against Cambridge) has taken out of us wouldnβt be ideal. When weβre playing Saturday to Saturday, it gives everyone a chance to rest their legs. Iβm pleased not to have had a midweek game.β
The encounter against Cambridge finished 1-1 after a typically committed performance by Halifax, but Aspin isnβt going to dwell on the game, but instead look forward to the trip to Aldershot, and would like to see a similar improvement from the game at Wrexham. βAll away fixtures are difficult,β he said, βbut I was pleased with the improvement in the Wrexham game over the Tamworth match.β
What the team may lack in skill, they more than make up for in effort and heart, a quality which Aspin feels serves the team well: βWeβre not good enough to turn up and not give 100% and expect to take the points. We have to be firing on all cylinders and be at our best to compete.β
Aldershot sit 19th in the league, and have signed Tristan Plummer until the end of the season on Thursday, but the Town manager knows that the side will need a repeat performance from last Saturday to this: βWe need to be as committed on Saturday because if you add on the ten points theyβve had deducted theyβd be comfortably mid-table.β
