Match winner Tom Denton was full of praise for the team’s performance following a hard fought 2-1 win against AFC Fylde and believes team spirit was key in turning the game around and claiming all 3 points.

Town’s towering forward notched a brace on Saturday against last year’s National League North winners and after going a goal behind just after half time, Denton considers the team’s togetherness to have been especially important in this win.

“They’ve come out and scored two minutes, maybe five minutes after half time I don’t know, and then obviously we’ve gone and got a quick reply and then we got the second.”

“We’ve always got a good team spirit in the dressing room, that’s what Bill always drives into us, you never know what could happen on a football pitch”

Denton nodded in The Shaymen’s equaliser, latching onto Adam Morgan’s header which came back off the bar, just a minute after AFC Fylde opened the scoring and he believes that the home side deserved all three points.

“Yeah it was a good game, first half maybe a bit cagey. Overall, I think we’ probably deserved it in the end, could have got three or four.”

There is always huge pressure to perform and pick up results at home and Denton is already looking ahead to next weekend’s home game against Maidenhead United and hopes the team can look to build on this win and push on to keep some form up at the Shay Stadium this season.

“You’ve always got a challenge to win your home games and we’ve done that and we’ve got another home game next week and if we can win that we could be 3rd or 4th you never know.”

This game was the sixth occasion where the score line remained 0-0 at half time so far, this season, however the 28-year old forward has been happy with his performances on the pitch so far, this season, even if the goals haven’t been flooding in.

“Yeah obviously it’s always nice to score goals but I feel like I’ve been playing well anyway myself even without the goals coming so yeah it’s nice to get two goals”

“It was a good three points for the boys”

FC Halifax Town fans will know the club didn’t enjoy the best of results against Fylde last year, however the forward is always confident about the team’s chances against the side, regardless of last season’s results and is glad to claim the win in the first meeting between the sides.

“Yeah well I was just saying to the Fylde guy we’ve always done well against Fylde always scoring always won but obviously we got done twice last year but it’s nice to kick off with a win against them and hopefully more wins to come.”

Denton will be hoping he can kick on from this game next weekend against Maidenhead and produce some more man of the match performances like this one against Fylde and hopefully grab some more important goals moving forward.
