Due to the weather, the finals have been postponed and will now take place on Friday 9th March.
After 4 months, 30+ hours of futsal, 82 matches and 324 goals the Finals are finally upon us.
At North Bridge Leisure Centre on Friday (9th March) the 2018 Adam Heslop Cup draws to a close. Thirty-three school teams from across Calderdale (Walsden to Ovenden, Carr Green to Old Town) have competed in a boys and girls Futsal competition with the possibility of a trip to Wembley as the prize.
The final twelve (8 boys teams & 4 girls teams) have qualified for the Halifax Finals and will be hoping to move onto the regional competition. Copley and St. Chad’s have managed to qualify in both the boys and girls competitions and with Copley having won the boys competition on two previous occasions they will be hoping to get into the latter stages this year.
In the boy’s competition Carr Green, as last year’s winners will be defending their title and trying to take the trophy back to Rastrick for a second year. Old Town, Walsden and West Vale are debuting in the tournament and have all had good qualifying results that they will want to build on in the finals. Old Earth were runners-up in 2017 and after finishing top of their group in qualifying will want to go one better this year at the finals. All Saints were top scorers in qualifying and have looked consistently strong in previous years, could they be the competition’s dark horse?
In the girls qualifying rounds Parkinson Lane were totally dominant so they will be planning to continue that form in the finals. Beech Hill also did well at qualifying, and if they can step up against Parkinson Lane they could have a shot at the title. St. Chad’s and Copley are not there just to make up the numbers though and the competition could end up being quite close if they can manage to get positive results against the qualifying group winners.
The winning boys and girls teams will go onto a regional competition hosted by Harrogate Town on 28th March to represent their school and FC Halifax Town.
Good luck to all the schools taking part and let’s hope the weather doesn’t disrupt the day.
