FC Halifax Town drew 0-0 in the penultimate away game of the season away at Dagenham & Redbridge this afternoon.

Town boss Chris Millington made four changes with Tylor Golden, Festus Arthur, Jamie Cooke and Mani Dieseruvwe back into the starting XI for the game.

In a game of few chances for either side, the home side had the chance to win the game deep into injury time from the penalty spot, but Sam Johnson saved Inih Effiong’s penalty to keep his 16th league clean sheet of the season.

The first effort of the game fell to Effiong. A freekick into the Town box came to the Dagenham frontman but his shot was high and wide of the target.

Dagenham were forced into an early change with Josh Hare who went down injured replaced by George Saunders who was named Dagenham’s man of the match at the end of the game.

It took Town until the 28th minute to have the first corner of the game as Angelo Cappello’s cross was blocked. Matt Warburton’s ball was cleared by the home defence at the near post.

The ball was worked nicely to Effiong on 35 minutes, he swivelled but his shot was easy for Johnson before a Elliot Johnson freekick into the box fell to Saunders but he fired his effort well over the Town bar.

Johnson was called into action again just before the break, Effiong and Saunders combined, the cross was met by Jay Bird, but his header was saved low down by the Town keeper.

Town frontman Rob Harker cut inside and curled an effort the wrong side of the post on 57 minutes before Johnson was at it again Effiong did well, and the ball was worked into the path of Sam Ling and Johnson was forced into another fine save to stop Dagenham taking the lead.

Effiong had another effort over the bar before Millenic Alli came on for Rob Harker.

Jamie Cooke went close from the edge of the box; his effort was tipped over the bar from Justham in probably Town’s best opportunity of the afternoon.

Town’s final change saw Max Wright returned from injury and replace Cooke with just minute’s remaining.

As the game went into injury time, Saunders found Bird in the box but as with the majority of efforts this afternoon he was unable to keep his shot on target, Mo Sagaf forced an acrobatic save from Johnson who parried his effort away for a corner. The resulting ball in was adjudged to have been handballed in the box but Sam Johnson saved Effiong’s penalty.

Neither side was able to find a goal and the points were shared at Dagenham and Town will now travel to Woking on Tuesday night in our final away game of the season, 7.45pm kick-off.
