FC Halifax Town were defeated 2-0 away at Chesterfield in the Vanarama National League this afternoon thanks to Oliver Banks first half injury time goal and substitute Armanda Dobra’s second half strike.

Town boss Chris Millington brought Angelo Cappello, Rob Harker and Luke Summerfield back into the starting Xi for the trip to the Technique Stadium

An early chance saw Jack Senior find Angelo Cappello down the left-hand side, his low cross evaded Rob Harker but fell to the feet of Matt Warburton but his effort was blocked for the first corner of the game.

A long ball from Cappello looked for Harker, who laid it into the path of Warburton on the edge of the box, but his effort was deflected wide for another corner.

The home’s side first effort came in the 10th minute, a mistake by Milli Alli saw Oliver Banks through on goal and his shot was saved by the feet of Town goalkeeper Sam Johnson for the Spireites first corner of the game.

On 18 minutes, the home side got into the box, but Town cleared to Alli who took on Grimes and got himself into the box, but his final touch took the ball out of play as the ball begged for him to fire at goal.

Clearest chance of the first half came in the 25th minute for the Spireites with Oliver Banks who took the chance to shoot from the edge of the box but curled his shot wide of Sam Johnson’s goal.

Tylor Golden was the first booking of the game just a minute later as Ryan Colclough was brought down just outside the box, from the resulting freekick Jeff King played it back to Banks, but Town blocked the shot, and the danger was cleared.

With five minutes to the break, the home side were probing looking for the opening goal but last-ditch challenges and clearances off the line denied the Spireites a goal.

They weren’t to be denied the lead at halftime as four minutes into injury time, the home side took the lead. Laurence Maguire’s cross was headed past the outstretched hand of Johnson into the bottom corner for his 5th league goal of the season.

Town boss Chris Millington was forced into a change at the start of the second half as Jamie Stott was brought on for England C International Jesse Debrah, who needed treatment in the first half.

Colclough flick down the left-hand side and he got past the outstretched leg of Matt Warburton, he got to the by-line, but his cross was deflected out for a corner when he had options from any cut back.

Town won the ball in midfield and found Harker who raced down the left-hand side, he had the support of Matt Warburton in the centre, but he was unable to find him and Grimes was able clear

Jack Senior raced forward in the 62nd minute and found Warburton, ball was worked over to Alli but again he overplayed the ball and out for a goal kick.

Town’s second substitution saw Jamie Cooke on for Warburton, whilst Paul Cook made his first change with Armando Dobra on for Joe Quigley.

The home side doubled the lead through Dobra’s 11th goal of the season. The cross from the right-hand side found its way to Dobra, he turned into the box and his effort went into the bottom left-hand corner of the net.

A flurry of changes saw Paul Cook’s second substitution saw Dallas replaced by Paul McCallum with 12 minutes remaining whilst their third change saw goalscorer Dobra replaced by Jeserun Uchegbulam after going down injured off the ball. Town’s final substitution saw Harvey Gilmour on for Tylor Golden.

Maguire foul on Gilmour was allowed to continue and he found Alli, but his effort was saved by Fitzsimons for a corner. The referee then stopped play to book Maguire for the challenge in the build-up.

Cooke had a shot but failed to trouble Fitzsimons as he was able to claim easily in the final minute of normal time just before five minutes was put up on the fourth official’s board to be played and the game was played out for the 2-0 win for play-off chasers Chesterfield.

Town will be back in action on Tuesday night with Aldershot Town travelling to the Shay, 7.45pm kick-off.
