FC Halifax Town beat Maidenhead United to progress in the FA Trophy.
Town came into this game looking to progress to the quarter-final of the Isuzu FA Trophy.
The deadlock couldn’t be broken within the 90 minutes, but it was Jordan Slew’s penalty that secured a 5-4 penalty win for the Shaymen.
The Town boss made two changes from the starting 11 he selected on Tuesday night. Tom Clarke and Jack Hunter both came into the side.
Town got the first chance of the game inside the first five minutes. Jordan Keane picked up the ball in the middle of the pitch, he found Max Wright at the edge of the box. He fed the ball through to Tylor Golden but his effort went over the bar.
Just before the 20 minute mark, Will De Havailland received a yellow card for Maidenhead United after bringing down Wright.
The key chances of the half for both sides came just two minutes apart. Reece Smith burst into the box for Maidenhead. His shot was on target but an excellent block from Clarke ensured the danger was cleared.
At the other end of the park, Milli Alli picked up the ball and almost made it 2 goals in 2 games as he fired towards the goal. His effort went narrowly wide of the right-hand post.
Maidenhead United made their first change of the game after the break. After sustaining an injury in the first half, Charlee Adams was replaced by Zico Asare.
Ashley Nathaniel-George had the best chance of the game just before the hour mark. He received the ball and ran to the edge of the box. His shot at goal was on target and looked to be heading for the back of the net but Sam Johnson had it covered and was able to make the save.
Town made their first change in the 66th minute. It was a tactical change for Town as Jordan Keane was replaced by Jesse Debrah.
Just after the 70th minute, Alli was the second player of the afternoon to be shown a yellow card. Harvey Gilmour tried his luck seconds later when his long-range shot went just over the bar.
Town’s second alteration saw Wright make way for Rob Harker with 12 minutes left to play, with Gilmour receiving a yellow card with a minute of normal time to go. Moments later, the fourth official indicated four minutes of added time.
Halfway into that allotted time, Slew replaced Jack Senior for Town.
With neither side able to break the deadlock, the tie went to penalties.
Town beat Maidenhead 5-4 with Johnson able to get a hand to Shawn McCoulsky’s effort. Town made no mistake with Mani Dieseruvwe, Harker, Jamie Stott, Alli, and Slew all able to find the back of the net.
In exactly a months’ time, Town will return to FA Trophy action for their quarter final tie. However, next up for the Shaymen is a trip to Southend United on Tuesday night.
